The Ventura County Civic Alliance is proud to support both civic education and the empowerment of youth through career-exploration opportunities.
During the Summer at City Hall program, we led a collaborative made up of the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD), local government, and community business leaders in the development and implementation of a student internship program highlighting public service careers, community issues, and the importance of civic engagement.
From 2016 to 2018, we guided the Summer at City Hall program to consistent growth every year, nearly doubling the number of students the original Oxnard site it employed while expanding the program to the cities of Ventura and Camarillo in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
88% of participating students reported that they’d consider working with the city in the future, while 97% agree that they “feel better prepared to enter the working world” following the completion of their internship. We’re proud to have guided these deeply beneficial programs, and appreciate the work done by all involved that allowed them to flourish – particularly that of Commissioner of Port of Hueneme and Summer at City Hall Project Director Mary-Anne Rooney!
“I was very proud to be the Project Director of the Summer at City Hall program. It is critical that we continue to educate and develop the leadership skills of our students – they are the future of our business, education, and civic government. Let’s make the investment to continue the successful real world programs like the Summer at City Hall program. Thank you to the Ventura County Civic Alliance for securing this important educational outreach.”
